Brother Juan Francisco is from the Macate district in the Ancan Province of Peru. It is about 12 hours to the north of Lima by auto. He first heard his calling to the priesthood when he was 13 years old. Although many people in his life discouraged him from pursuing a religious life, he became close with a Diocesan priest that not only encouraged his vocation but also became a central father figure in his life.

He began his Aspirancy in the community in March of 2004 at the age of 23. He has completed all his major classes, but he is required to complete some complimentary courses before his Diaconate ordination can occur. He chose his name through two very different motivations. When on his retreat to choose his name he would wander the halls and developed a devotion to a bust of St. Francis of Assisi. Also, because he is from a remote village he did not see a TV until he was 12 years old. When his pastor got a TV, the first thing they watched was a movie about St. Francis. As for Juan, he had a curiosity about the Apostle John because he was always so close to Jesus. Additionally, there is a part of the gospel where John shows a bit of impulsiveness and a radical nature (which was good), but with the help of God he was able to change that aspect about himself. This greatly appealed to Brother Juan Francisco.
